Just a little reminder for anyone that is new to my blogs I have several diaries that I’ve already finished blogging and some others that I’m in the process of blogging. Any of them can be found by clicking into their title at the right hand side of this screen (sidebar) under the title “BLOG ROLL”. It’s a bit confusing how to locate them sometimes so I’m going to try and make it easier here. Always look at the top of the screen to see which of my diary pages you are on. I have a “Sallysdiaries” page, a “Sallysdiaries2” page, a “20th Century Diaries” page and then a “19th Century Travel Diaries” page. Any of the diaries below can be accessed if you know what their title is. They are as follows…..

 1) A 1912 diary of one young couples (lovers) time spent in England touring the country side. This one is located under the blog page just titled “Sallysdiaries” and you just have to scroll down all the way to the beginning of that page because it’s the one I actually started this entire blogging adventure with. If you are on another one of my blog sites you can get back to this diary by looking under to the right and under BLOG ROLL it has a title “Summer of 1912” or “Sallysdiaries” as a link.

 2) An 1887 diary written by Edith Vanderbilt (from the famous Vanderbilt family). This one is also located under “Sallysdiaries” and is the one I blogged about right after the one above, the 1912 England diary. Depending on which of my blog sites you are on its title under the Blog Roll is “Edith Vanderbilt’s 1887 Diary” or just “Sallysdiaries”.

 3) A 1927 diary of a man who lost his wife and child during childbirth. This is a very deep emotionally written journal. Its title is “John’s 1927 Grief Diary” and can be found using that title under the BLOG ROLL or also by the blog name “Sallysdiaries2.”

 4) A 1934 “thrilling” diary (and I don’t mean that lightly), written by a young woman who started dating a real life mobster (unbeknownst to her in the beginning). Murder, guns, hidden compartments, strange cars watching the house, briefcase full of money; it has it all. This one can be found under the “20th Century Diaries” page. You’ll have to scroll down to the beginning of that page and look under older posts. (I blogged from this diary before the #6 below. So if you’re on the Hawaiian diary blog page, you’re in the right place for the “Gangster Girlfriends Diary.”)

 5) An 1881 Travel diary written by a young girl while on board a ship sailing to American with her sister. Her father is also the captain of the ship. Fabulous entries concerning the sites along the way. This one can be found under the heading “19th Century Travel Diaries”.

 6) Finally a 1927 diary of a couple on board a ship heading to Hawaii and also their time spent in Hawaii. Lots of original photos from the trip too are posted with this blog. This one can be found under the heading “20th Century Diaries.”

I know it might be a bit confusing and I’m in the process of making this all a bit easier. For those of you who have been following my blogs I’ll be adding new posts for all of them tomorrow or the next day for sure. And thank you all for going on these adventures with me!

Here’s a photo of some incredible 1940’s “Trail Rider’s” diaries that I have in my collection. I hope to blog about them one day soon but I have to get through them first. They have to do with a group of friends who take several horseback trips through the Rocky Mountains. There are fabulous original photos to go with these diaries too. However for now, check out my 29th Century Diaries page as I’m starting a blog Jenna's Photos of My Diaries 022about one couples trip to Hawaii in 1923. Lots of photos to go with that diary too. Enjoy…..

This is a video my son put together for me. We’ll see if it works here. If you can’t acess it I might have not loaded it right. I’ve always loved the ocean and so I wanted to film mostly ocean scenes. I’m also in love with the Titanic and all she represents. So just a year ago this month I was blessed to have been able to take the 100 year anniversary cruise and sail over the wreck of the Titanic exactly the time she sunk (to the very hour) 100 years previous. These videos were just taken with my small camera but they represent such incredible memories; seeing the Azamara for the first time, the view from our room, the fabulous New York harbor as we were leaving, the decks we all called home, the incredible night of the sinking with the Balormal next to us, and finally leaving the site early that morning with the sun following us. All of the scenes are as we were heading towards her in the middle of the North Atlantic,  then as we were right over the ship and finally (and sadly), on our way home. Enjoy…..

A New Diary

Well, I just added a new blog. It’s the one I’ve been using on my diaries facebook page but decided to continue it here and not facebook for the simple reason that I know I’m covered by wordpress as far as copyright issues and with facebook I don’t think I am. It’s one of my favorite diaries in my private collection. For those of you who haven’t read any of it on facebook,  it’s all about a woman in 1934 who meets a man at a New Years Eve party. It takes her several months and some crazy situations to finally realize that he’s a New York Gangster whose responsible for several murders; he and his family. It’s a facinating diary and you can read it by clicking onto the “20th Century Diaries” line on the right hand side of this page under ‘BLOGROLL”. It’s going to be a little different too then a regular Blog because I just wrote most of the diary in one sitting instead of weekly blogs. However, that particular blog’s entries stops on October 28th as that was the last diary entry I posted from on facebook. However I will continue on with her entries (which will of course show up at the top of the blog page) within a few days. Hope I’m making sense. I’ve also been adding new entries to the 1881 travel diary and the 1927 grief diary. Enjoy

FINALLY!!!

Well, I finally got my 3rd blog site finished. You can find it on the right hand side of this blog under “BLOG ROLL” and the title of it is “19th Century Travel Diaries”. Just click into that link to start our next adventure. That adventure of course is shared with us because of 14 year old Ernestine Hassenstein and her 1881 private diary. I’ve posted a few things on this new site but will post Ernestine’s first entry in a day or two. Enjoy……..

Well, I found the next diary that I want to share here. I have always been in love with travel journals, especially shipboard travel journals. They take me to mysterious and ancient lands far away without leaving the comfort of my own home, and this is one of those incredible diaries. It was written by 14 year old Ernestine Hassenstein in the year 1881. Ernestine was traveling on board the steamship Acadia and the ship captain was none other then Ernestine’s father, Fredrich Julius August Engelhardt Hassenstein. Her younger sister, Elizabeth Emilie was also on board.

I found a wonderful time line for the family and so I want to give you a bit of background before I start quoting from this amazing travel journal. Her father Fredrich was born in Russia in 1840. He married Karoline Luise Sophie Bottcher. They had 5 children; Ernestine (b. 1868), Elizabeth (b. 1869), Anna Olga (b. 1871), Fredrich Adalbert (b. 1878), and Victoria Fisher (b. 1882). Although Ernestine was born in Prussia, the family lived in Glasgow Scotland at the time this diary was written.

Ernestine’s father was known as a master mariner but on February 8th, 1901 he left on board the steamer Manicore bound for Madeira and was never heard from again. He was lost at sea. Ernestine married Walter Duff in 1896 while in Glasgow. The photo here shows Ernestine and her husband on their Silver Wedding Anniversary in 1921.

I must say that Ernestine’s diary entries are incredible. They are very long and detailed and as they leave Glasgow in the summer of 1881 they travel to Italy, Spain and finally the United States.

I haven’t decided whether to continue on where this blog left off or start a whole new page, a whole new blog using Ernestine’s diary. I’m leaning towards the later but either way I’ll let you know. So…looks like we have a trip to take to Italy, Spain and the United States on board a steamship, 131 years ago, seen through the eyes of 14 year old Ernestine…….To be continued….

Well, I’m going to start a new diary blog very soon and I hope you all enjoyed Edith’s travels as much as I did. I’m not quite sure yet if I’ll start a new wordpress blog page and give you the link to it or continue on with this page. I think it might be a new page because I want to keep Edith’s blog for any new readers. Plus at the beginning of Edith’s blog page is another diary I started with; way back when. It’s a 1913 English Country side travel diary by two young lovers; if you haven’t read it yet. The photo I’ve included here was taken by a young woman who has a photography company named Jenna Luoto Photography and this shows a fraction of what I have in my private collection. I hope to get started on the new blog within a week but I’ll keep you updated. Hope you are all well…..
